WITHOUT YOU I AM NOTHING

This installation is a collaboration effort of Shawn Lim, Effendy Ibrahim and Eddy Ibrahim. It explores the relationship between human, nature and technology. 5 alphabets forming “EARTH” will be created using different elements related to nature; such as plants, water, rocks, animals and metal. By giving this qualities to the typeface, the audience are reminded of the importance of such elements on our planet. These elements are fused together with the type to further reinforce its importance as a communication tool.

Five screens would be mounted on the wall in consecutive order displaying the 5 created typefaces individually. At the bottom of each screen will be an webcam for motion detection which is connected to a powermac each. Audience interaction will glitch and distort the initilal beauty of the image.

This glitching of the image is caused by the presence of the human being in close proximity of the installation, symbolising the destruction of earth by long term excessive consumerism and globalisation. This is in a way reflective of the importance of type in society as the glitching would cause the word to be illegible.
